Growing up I never was into the whole “Comic Con Universe”. It wasn’t until I got older that I started to gain interest, mainly because of the shows/movies I was watching. From the discussion panels featuring my favorite actors to the amazing costumes, experiencing New York Comic Con has been a recent addition to my bucket list. I was browsing the subscription box site, NerdBlock and was ecstatic to learn they teamed up with ReedPop for an exclusive NYCC Box! Despite the high shipping charge, I knew I had to get this box. It was going to be my NYCC experience in a box!
So first things first, let’s see the first image when we open the box
Not sure what I expected, but I’m not getting a “Bam! It’s Comic Con” vibe from just the initial box opening. It’s ok, that is the excitement of subscription boxes, you never know what you are going to get. So let’s dive in!
New York Comic Con T-shirt (Exclusive item): I have to say, the shirt design was a bit of a let down for me. The design seemed generic and a bit boring. The upside though, it is super comfy. I never received a shirt from a box, so I wasn’t expecting such good quality. I’ll probably wear this shirt for lounging about the house or when laundry sneaks up on me (You know we all had one of those days).
Harry Potter Gryffindor Socks: Is it ok to say I squealed when I saw these! I love Harry Potter from books to the movies! These socks are super soft and comfy and the best part is they go over my calves (gotta love running!). I love that they aren’t super busy, but detailed enough to give you that Hogwarts feel. I can definitely say these will be the perfect at home cozy fall socks!
TMNT Shoe Laces: These shoelaces are adorable! I love that there is an option for everyone. Now, I’m not going to lie to you, I probably won’t be wearing them, but I think they are perfect for any young fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I have to say, I instantly started singing the theme song when I saw these in the box. Who’s your favorite turtle? My favorites were Raphael and Donatello!
Voltron: Legendary Defender Wallet (Exclusive): I was never a huge Voltron fan. I may have seen at most 10 episodes in my time. I have heard that the Netflix remake/revamp was pretty good, maybe I’ll check it out soon. The wallet is pretty sturdy and it’s a typical bi-fold wallet that you may find at Hot Topic. Are you a fan of the 80’s Voltron or do you prefer the Netflix revamp?
The Walking Dead Projector Light Keyring: I love the Walking Dead and I can’t wait until it premiere’s on October 23rd. I love this keychain, probably more than I should. At first, I thought it was a regular laser point keychain and I was like “eh, ok I guess”. Then, I pressed the button and was transported to the infamous hospital scene in Season 1 where Rick Grimes first wakes up. The phrase “Don’t Open, Dead Inside” shows once the button is pressed. I found it works best in dark lighting against a clean canvas. Either way, if there is a zombie apocalypse in the near future, I’ll be ready with my keychain to warn people! Are you watching the premiere? Who do you think Negan and his precious Lucielle claim?
NYCC Lapel Pin (Exclusive): I saw this pin after I saw the Turtle shoelaces and just instantly put them together. This pin was made to replicate the sewer cover of NYC. The pin is pretty sturdy and if you are a pin collector, it would be a great addition to your collection.
Ghostbusters Slimer Springz (Exclusive): I was a huge fan of Ghostbusters growing up! RIP Egon Spengler! I loved the movies and as well as the cartoons, so seeing Slimer in the box definitely brought me back to those fond memories. I haven’t watched the new Ghostbusters film, but I am guessing that is why they have included Slimer. This is meant to be like the Hulu girls you stick on the dashboard of your car, I just don’t think I would place him there myself. All in all, I think it is a cute concept and if you are a fan of this little green slime ball, he would be the perfect addition to your car dashboard! Did you happen to watch the new Ghostbusters with the all female ghost busting team? So, who are you going to call?
IDW Revolution #1 (Exclusive Cover): This is the first in a 5 comic series. It is a huge crossover series involving iconic 80’s action toys from Transfomers to GI Joe. I haven’t read it as I have never really followed this series (I’m more of a Marvel girl). It is getting some good reviews though, so who knows? I may just save it for a rainy day!
Disco Spiral (Exclusive Print): This is a gorgeous print of a re-imagined image of Spiral by the very talented Ramón Pérez! I personally thought they would’ve included someone more mainstream. If you aren’t familiar with Spiral, she has appeared in Longshot and X-men comics and cartoon as the lieutenant of Mojo. Again, not a personal favorite, but it is a beautifully drawn print!
Marvel Infinity Gauntlet Paper Weight (Exclusive): This is the BEST item in the whole box! When I first heard of the NYCC box and what would be included, the Infinity Gauntlet was mentioned. At that time, I was still indecisive as to whether I wanted to pay the shipping costs for an item unknown. When the sneak peek of the NYCC box came out and they showed this Gauntlet, I immediately purchased a box of my own! It is gorgeous in person! I’m not sure it would work well as a paperweight because it isn’t that heavy, but as a decorative piece? It would be an amazing conversation starter! The craftsmanship of the Gauntlet and the stones is superb! Are you excited for the upcoming Marvel movies leading up to Avengers: Infinity War 2 part movie?
Wow, that was a pretty packed box! Albeit, more smaller items than I would have wanted, but still there were a lot of items that expanded across various genres. I had my favorites, Infinity Gauntlet, Harry Potter Socks and the Walking Dead keychain. Some misses for me were the TMNT shoelaces, the Slimer Springerz and Revolution comic book. The NerdBlock with ReedPop NYCC box was a good box all in all. Have you ever been to a Comic Con? If so which city or cities have you attended?
