It is no surprise that MAC goes all out once a year for a large holiday collection. The thing is, MAC has more collaborations and collections than I can keep up with. I have to eventually pick and choose which to splurge on and which ones to pass up on. I first saw a preview of this collection on Trendmood1’s Instagram page and wasn’t blown away at first. Then the unthinkable happened, MAC brought back the highly sought after highlighter….. Whisper of Gilt!! So once again, I was sucked into a vortex of pretty packaging and gorgeous highlighters! This jam-packed collection filled with makeup kits, makeup brushes, eye palettes, and more, is out now and will be available until December 8, 2016. Keep reading to see what I picked up and my thoughts!
Seriously, can we just stare at this packaging! It is completely different from any MAC packaging that I have, right down to the texture! I would really recommend picking up an item or two from this collection!
I love the purple and pink contrast with gold accents! I have a ton of lipsticks, trust me it’s crazy, so choosing a new color is difficult sometimes. Nowadays, it usually isn’t “If I have this color”, because let’s face it, after a while they all start to look alike. I go by reviews and swatches in stores to determine if I should pick it up. I went with ‘Leap of Delight’ and ‘Saucy Darling’, based on my little checklist and I couldn’t have been happier because these colors are gorgeous!
Leap of Delight Lipstick: This lipstick is gorgeous! It is a medium purple with a warm pink undertone and a satin finish. The formula is very creamy and went on smoothly without tugging on my lips. I have very pigmented lips and this color is very opaque, so much so that it took a bit to take it fully off my lips. For this color to stand out, I would wear a neutral eye look so that the focus is on my lip color!
Saucy Darling Lipstick: This color is so bright and fun! It is a medium pink with warm undertones and a natural finish. It went on smoothly and was also very opaque which is a major plus! I tend to find bright pinks such as this a hit or miss with opacity. I wouldn’t wear this color much during Fall/Winter, but it will be a gorgeous color for any spring look!
Sweet Vision Magic Dust Powder: I am going to be totally honest, this was a splurge buy. I had no idea what a Magic Dust Powder was but the color was absolutely a must have! It is a medium pink powder with warm undertones and a frosted gold shimmer. So, I am still not sure what this is supposed to be used for because it is really pigmented. It works as a gorgeous blush for me though and I’m allowed to even skip on the highlighter when I wear this!
The real reason for this haul, the face compacts! A gorgeous blush and an insane highlighter in one compact! Let’s take a moment and admire the beauty of these two! I am so glad I was able to snag both, because Whisper of Gilt went as fast as the Selena collection combined! One thing that I was excited about is both are warm undertone compacts!Sweet Peach Face Compact: I got this specifically for the spring because the colors aren’t light and bright. The blush, At Dusk, is muted medium pink blush with a subtle warm undertone and satin finish. I know I said I wanted this specifically for spring, but this pink blush is so versatile it can be worn with any look! The highlighter, Tutu, is a light beige highlighter with a warm peach undertone and metallic finish. I really love this highlighter for the inner corners of my eyes and under my brow. This palette is so versatile for any season!Sweet Copper Face Compact: Can you hear the screams? It is thousands of beauty and makeup enthusiasts celebrating the return of Whisper of Gilt!! The blush, Pleasure Model, is a medium copper-tone orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. This blush is very pigmented and requires a very light hand when applying. I am eager to try this color out but I won’t lie, I am intimidated by the dark color. The highlighter, Whisper of Gilt, is a light medium gold with a warm, yellow-orange undertone and a metallic finish. I can see why this highlighter is popular it’s gorgeous! Again, like the blush, I would use a light hand when applying, as this highlighter is very pigmented. This is a must have for anyone who enjoys a very metallic and pigmented highlighter.
This was one of my favorite MAC holiday collections. From packaging to pigmentation, I am pleasantly pleased and surprised that I didn’t have any “duds”. I thoroughly liked each shade and product and can’t wait to use them more! Are you going to pick up anything from the collection? If so, what items will you choose?
