From beauty products to nutrition snacks, Subscription Boxes has taken the world by storm. There are even Subscriptions Boxes for dogs! For those that don’t know or never heard of a Subscription Box, it is a monthly (for most of them) subscription where you are sent samples, deluxe sizes and sometimes even full size products for you to try. So I am sure you can imagine my excitement when I was offered two free boxes to try out BarkBox. BarkBox is a monthly subscription service that caters to dogs of all sizes. When you sign up, they ask for the size of your dog so that they can make sure the fit and size of the toys matches the size of your dog. I wish they would ask if our pups were male or female to allow for more customization of the toys they receive. Other than that, I have been pretty happy with my boxes so far. The treats are all natural, which is a huge plus because it is what coincides with Khaleesi’s diet. They always throw in a chew for the dogs as well. The chews are one of Khaleesi’s favorite things. She has tried the pig ear, lamb ear and trachea and each one she enjoys for not just hours, but for days. Looking at the website, August’s box seems to be based around a nautical, seaside theme. Let’s have a look and see what Khaleesi received!
The base subscription starts at $20 a month if you pick a yearly subscription, then you area allowed add ons: an extra chew ($6), and extra toy ($9) or an extra outdoor toy ($12). Currently, Khaleesi has joined the extra chew club and the extra toy club. So a total month box for Khaleesi is $35. Now that we got the boring stuff out of the way, let’s see what’s inside!
So here’s the box opened, sometimes the wrapping gives us clue as to what we can expect our contents to be. So looking at the paper (the above image) and the contents in the box, I would say my guess was pretty good. It seems like August’s theme revolves around the beach, which is perfect considering Khaleesi is a Floridian pup!
101 Sign (Khaleesi received the small one: $8 for a small; $10 for a large): Compared to the other toy selections for August, this one is not my favorite. But this box isn’t for me, and as long as it squeaks, Khaleesi loves it! The squeaker inside the toy is pretty loud as squeakers go, yay for Khaleesi, boo for my poor ears! This toy is recommended for small pups.
Chompin’ Charlie ($9): I love this toy! It reminds me of a scene from Jaws. I love the detail of the surfboard caught in Charlie’s teeth. There is a squeaker inside of Charlie, which as we know makes Khaleesi a happy pup! This toy is recommended for small to mid size pups.
Tito’s Taco ($14): This was my absolute favorite of the three! It is such an adorable and fun toy. The best part is that velcro attaches each layer of the taco, so Khaleesi get a multiple toys in one. There is not only a squeaker inside the toy but also a crinkle layer as well. This toy is recommended for small pups to mid size pups.
Seaside Snacks ($6 for 5.5 oz. bag): These are made of lamb and honey. They are grain free, wheat free, gluten free, soy free. They are made in the U.S.A. and are allergy friendly. Of course, Khaleesi doesn’t care for the nutrition facts, she’s all about the yum appeal. When I opened the bag, she sat right by my feet looking at it wagging her tail. I can’t say I remembered her chewing it because she devoured it so fast. Khaleesi is a huge fan of lamb and beef as well as cheese. So this bag was a huge check mark!
Fish Taco Treats ($6 for 5.5 oz. bag): Khaleesi isn’t a big fan of fish. I am not sure if it’s a certain type or just seafood in general. She does like these salmon cookies that she received in a previous box. With these treats in particular, she nibbled on it but never finished them. They are made in the U.S.A., gluten and grain free and all natural.
The Chews: The bully stick is from a different manufacture and is not listed on the site, I spoke to a sales associate and she reassured me that the bully stick is made with the same quality as BarkBox chews. The Pig’s Ear and Knee Cap are still listed. Khaleesi’s favorite thing to do is chew on everything. Luckily for me, it’s just her bed or her toys, that is until BarkBox introduced my little wolf to the wonders that is all natural chews. Khaleesi is obsessed with these chews. She has tried lamb ear, pig ear and the beef trachea so far. She currently chews a different bully stick brand, review coming soon, but I am sure she will love this just the same. I prefer these as opposed to the rawhides you find in local pet stores.
I think August’s BarkBox was a success! I haven’t received a dud yet. I know you are probably wondering: Do I give Khaleesi all of the chews and treats at once? Do I give Khaleesi all of her toys at once? The answer to both questions is no. I rotate her toys ever few weeks so she doesn’t get bored. For the chews, I always switch them out when I see more fur than chew. For her treats, I only use them sparingly for training purposes and when she does something really good. I will be sharing how I store Khaleesi’s things from grooming to toys in the near future, so make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a thing! I would love to hear of your experience with pet subscription boxes as well as any recommendations you may have. Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
